Patient accommodation and operating theatres

All inpatients will be given private rooms with space for their relatives to be with them 24/7. The new high-tech operating theatres have been designed to adapt to the continuously evolving needs of the health sector of the future.

Patient accommodation

At the new OUH all patient accommodation has been designed as private rooms with a private bathroom and toilet. This means that, as a patient here, you will have more peace and quiet and sleep better. The rooms have also been designed for your relatives to be able to stay the night with you and to be with you 24/7 if you wish.

As a patient you can order your own food, follow your treatment and control sounds and light via a touchscreen by your bed. The food you order for yourself and your relative will be delivered to your room where it may be consumed.

Operating theatres

At the existing OUH, the operating theatres are distributed throughout the hospital and are attached to a specific medical specialty. The theatres differ in structure and design. At New OUH, all operating theatres are collected on one floor and are standardized with the same inventory and basic equipment, regardless of medical specialty. This provides greater recognizability in daily clinical life and simplifies the use of the theatre which, in turn, contributes to better and more stable patient treatment.

This standardization also means that in a period of days, the function of a theatre can be changed from one surgical specialist room to another. This provides flexibility, making it possible to make changes underway to adapt to the dynamic needs of the health sector.

The new OUH will have a total of 52 new, high-tech operating rooms.

Testing in practice

Employees, patients and their relatives are all involved in the development and preparations for the new OUH. To be as well-prepared as possible, we test and train as we go and the broad involvement of employees, patients and their relatives helps to ensure that knowledge of the daily life at the hospital is taken into consideration, for example in regard to patient accommodation and the operating theatres at the new OUH.

At the existing OUH, we have built identical copies of patient accommodation and operating theatres exactly as they will look at the new OUH. The purpose of this is to test how the rooms function in regard to different medical specialties, disciplines and the wishes of patients and their relatives in order to select the most optimal solutions. In this way, patients, their relatives and employees can test future conditions before the rooms are ready for use at the new OUH.

Both the copies of patient accommodation and operating theatres are now in use at the existing OUH.
