CONTACT PERSON SYSTEM
Each patient will be given a contact doctor and a contact nurse, who are going to follow the patient during all his/her progress through the Department F just from the first examination to eventually postoperatively examinations as out patient treatments. The contact person system will use the number and the staff persons who meet the patient.
The contact doctor examinates the patient and decides on surgery. Operates on the patient. Goes the rounds postoperatively and sees the patient at outpatient controls postoperatively.
If the contact doctor is a consultant or a staff doctor there will often be an assistant surgeon, too, who is (associated) contact doctor.
During the hospitalization the patient is given a contact nurse as well.
Doctors wishes for being involved in special types of patients or operations are best to be fulfilled by writing a note at the hospitalization paper, which forms the starting point for booking the examination and operation. All hospitalization papers (the waiting list of the department) is to be found at the secretariat in the out patient department.

During outward organized contacts and by extern conferences all the doctors of the department loyally have to represent the department’s point of view.
ATTITUDE AND ETHICS
It is important that the doctor dedicates him-/herself understanding of the ethical aspects of the individual and that he/she develops into a suitable and ethical proper attitude to the patients and their treatments. The doctor’s attitude towards both the patients and the nursing staff has to be marked by a will of co-operation and understanding.
The doctor has to be informed of the ethical and moral aspects of the medical calling including the ethical rules for doctors and the Helsinki-declaration. From the guidance of the department the doctor must try to give such a careful and good patient information as possibly concerning planned examinations, its consequences, proposed treatment and its eventually riscs and prognosis.
Often it is necessary to ask older colleagues for advice and guidance, especially concerning relatives and patients with cancer and other serious diseases.
